As part of an ongoing program of work to improve the CHIA recertification process, a new Recertification Guide has been launched.

Feedback from CHIA alumni on the recertification process highlighted the need to streamline the guide and revise point allocation to ensure that effort, particularly for original work, is appropriately recognised and rewarded.

This feedback has been incorporated into the new Guide, which you can start using immediately.

The details

The main changes to the guide are:

  • Introduced three new categories (8, 9, and 10) for professional and workplace activities, emphasising peer/mentor engagement and workplace learning.
  • Increased caps on certain categories to provide greater flexibility.
  • Reduced sub-categories for a more streamlined structure.
  • Grouped categories by functional areas to make it easier to identify qualifying activities.
  • Increased CPD points for ‘original work’ to better recognise learning and effort.
  • Reviewed category and point allocations to ensure fair earning potential, particularly for professionals in rural and regional areas.

What this means for you:

If you have CPD activities recorded in the old journal these can be copied over to the new journal and the new guide used to recalculate categories. The new guide can then be used moving forward.

Recertification submissions using the old guide and journal will still be accepted. You will not be required to back date any existing activities if you choose not to do so.

CHIAs are still required to earn 60 points throughout the three year recertification period and choose activities that align to the Australian Health Informatics Competency Framework.

Scenarios:

I have just started my CPD recertification activities and recorded some of these in the old journal

  • We recommend that you copy and paste your activities to the new journal and use the new guide to categorise them

I have around 30 points accrued and recorded in the old journal

  • You can choose to submit using either the new or the old guide and journal. However, the new guide has new categories and increased caps, so this may be beneficial for some

I have accrued most of my points and recertification is due this year

  • You may want to recertify this year using the old guide and journal, then move to the new guide and journal for your next recertification cycle
