CHIA recommends

This Australian whitepaper, a joint national project by Deloitte, Curtin University, the Digital Health Collaborative Research Centre, and the Consumer Health Forum of Australia, attempts to better understand individual preferences and expectations of virtual healthcare. The findings from this comprehensive consumer survey identify a three-horizon model – the connected consumer, the empowered consumer, and the confident consumer. The survey of nearly 2000 individuals revealed that 70% are willing and ready to use virtual health services and more than 80% want to share and own their health data.

Providing valuable insights into eight design principles of a person-centred healthcare system, the whitepaper claims that the current Australian healthcare system does not serve everyone equally, and a reimagined system needs to address social and environmental determinants; link data, information, and knowledge; reduce barriers to healthcare access and advances in science, and incentivise integrated care that achieves cost-effective healthcare outcomes.

Reading this whitepaper relates to Competency F.6 – appraise the structure and design of health information in different use contexts and F.8 – appraise new data sources and emerging technologies, and their relevance to health.
