We asked the CHIA Examination Committee to recommend a recent publication/resource that is relevant to a CHIA. This issue they recommended the article ‘Technology in end-of-life care is very important’: the view of nurses regarding technology and end-of-life care.
Given recent events in the Australian aged care sector, highlighted by the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety and the recently formed Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission, along with the impending new Aged Care Act expected to commence from July next year, it is important that this healthcare sector continues to become digitalised. This study of 64 participants explores the perspectives and expectations of nurses working in residential aged care settings regarding the utilisation of technology to enhance care at the end-of-life. It is critical that nurses working in residential aged care facilities are open to engaging with technologies during end-of-life care. As always, this study reinforces the need for providing healthcare providers with ongoing support and training in the variety of technologies.
